Become an Advocate: Volunteer Training Starts March 3

Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors? YWCA Missoula’s Volunteer Advocate Training is an immersive, in-depth program that equips community members with the tools to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness.

This free, six-week training is essential for those who want to:

  • Work directly with YWCA shelter residents
  • Answer calls on the 24/7 crisis line
  • Engage in outreach and education in the community

By the end of this program, you’ll be prepared to serve survivors with empathy, expertise, and confidence.


Training Schedule & Commitment

This training is designed to be intensive and interactive, blending expert-led instruction, group discussions, and real-world case studies.

  • Duration: 6 weeks
  • Start Date: March 3
  • Location: YWCA Missoula – The Meadowlark
  • Time Commitment:
    • Two evening sessions per week (typically 5:30 – 8:30 PM)
    • Some independent learning modules between sessions
    • Attendance is required to become a certified volunteer advocate

We understand that this is a significant commitment, but the knowledge and skills you gain will be invaluable—whether you volunteer with us or apply these insights in your personal and professional life.

✔ How to Practice Objective Reporting
✔ Serving Survivors with Mental Illness & Substance Misuse
✔ Boundaries, Vicarious Trauma, & Self-Care
✔ Identifying Signs and Symptoms of Strangulation
✔ YWCA Housing Programs and Biases Around Homelessness
✔ Sexual Assault Advocacy & Survivor-Centered Response
✔ Connections to Community Resources
